Surly is Furious waiting for the train!

This week on Beer Sessions Radio, Jimmy and Ray welcomed filmmaker and Good Beer Seal bar owner Paul Kermizian into the studio along with our roving reporter, Dave Brodrick. Paul talked about his experience making the film American Beer and his own Brooklyn bar, Barcade. The guys were also joined by a special call-in guest from the wilds of Minnesota, Omar Ansari of Surly Brewing Company.

After the show, Shane Welch of Sixpoint Craft Ales found himself at our table at Roberta’s Restaurant to cheerfully talk shop. The quip of the night belongs to Paul Kermizian, however, who informed us that, ” On the weekends I tell the staff when people ask for Amstel or Stella -tell them to get a Jack and Coke!”

Hops, Cooperstown and Beer Sessions Radio

Hops

The Beer Sessions Radio-tm gang taped two shows at Brewery Ommegang this past weekend during Belgium Comes to Cooperstown, arguably one of the best beer festivals on the east coast. You can hear these two episodes August 24 and August 31 on the Heritage Radio Network. You’ll hear some great interviews with nano- brewers Sean Lawson (Lawson’s Finest Liquids) and Brian Strumke (Stillwater Artisanal Ales) and the gang from Ommegang including President and CEO Simon Thorpe and brewmaster Phil Leinhart.

Cooperstown is, historically, a hop growing region. This photo of hops was taken at the Farmer’s Museum in Cooperstown, not far from Ommegang. We had a great time in Cooperstown and are excited to share the experience with our listeners. Tune in to Beer Sessions Radio tomorrow for a great discussion on hops with our friends from We Dig Plants and Ben Granger of Bierkraft. Keep tuning in this month for previews of our Ommegang interviews and other surprises.
